PASA, one of the regional societies participating in the International Society of Audiology was created at the ISA meeting in Morioka, Japan, in 1992. In its short time has enrolled more than 150 members. PASA represents all 35 nations of the Americas: a considerable part of the world indeed. Our by-laws call for us to have periodical meetings and academic events and courses. PASA supported such events in the USA, México, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Puerto Rico. Our actual officers come from different American nations: the immediate past-president from the USA; the president from Mexico; two vice presidents from USA and Ecuador; the secretary from Costa Rica, the treasurer from Guatemala and the Editor from Mexico. A recent modification of the by-laws incorportated to the Board some members at large , that will represent other regions and/or countries in the continent. Our newsletter "Que PASA?" is in his 9th year of ininterrupted publication linking the ideas, programs and information between all the interested people in the Americas.

The principal purposes for which this Society was formed are:

• To exchange scientific knowledge and to further education and training about prevention, care and research in auditory communication throughout the Americas

• To promote the general welfare of persons with impaired hearing of all ages and in all American nations

• To further research on all aspects of the problem of impaired hearing such as cause and prevention, medical and social treatments, and methods of education and training of hearing impaired persons

• To develop a better understanding of the problem of hearing impairment on the part of the public

• To cooperate with all relevant public, private and governmental agencies

• To further the education, training, and recruitment of personnel for work in audiology

• To establish or incorporate national units of the Society throughout the Americas to advise, assist, guide and coordinate activities of the Society

• To serve as a clearinghouse for gathering and disseminating information about hearing impairment and hearing-impaired persons

• To cooperate with and assist Hearing International in the furtherance of its objectives

• To solicit and receive funds for the accomplishment of these purposes.

PASA invites your membership as Full, Associate, Corporate or Correspondant Member. If you are interested in join PASA please fill the corresponding application form, contact one of the Board members and begin to have the rights and benefits of a young but very promising Society. 

You will receive your diploma and four newsletter each year; to enter very soon into a PASA Web page; to have the right to discounts in the PASA meetings; to send notes and/or articles to be published in the newsletter and to have also all the rights approved in the by-laws.

PASA, una de las sociedades regionales que participa en la Sociedad Internacional de Audiología, fue creada en Japón, en 1992. En su corta vida ha afiliado a más de 150 socios. PASA representa a las 35 naciones de América que implican una parte considerable del mundo. Organiza o auspicia periódicamente reuniones o cursos que hasta ahora han tenido lugar en los EUA, México, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador y Puerto Rico. El Comité Ejecutivo está integrado por representantes de los EUA, México, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala y Puerto Rico. La más reciente modificación de los estatutos permitirá la incorporación al Comité Ejecutivo de vocales que representarán diferentes regiones o países de América. Nuestro boletín "Que PASA?", en su noveno año de publicación ininterrumpida ha permitido el intercambio de ideas y experiencias, la promoción de programas y la diseminación de información entre todos los interesados en nuestro continente.

Los objetivos principales de la Sociedad son:

• Intercambiar información científica y propiciar la mejor educación y preparación sobre prevención, tratamiento e investigación en el campo de la comunicación por medio de la audición en América

• Promover el bienestar de las personas con impedimentos auditivos de cualquier edad, en todas las naciones de América

• Investigar todas las facetas de los problemas de audición como sus causas, prevención, tratamiento médico o social y métodos de educación y preparación de las personas con impedimentos auditivos

• Desarrollar la mejor comprensión del público hacia los problemas auditivos

• Cooperar con los organismos gubernamentales y privados relevantes en este campo

• Incrementar la educación, preparación y reclutamiento del personal que debe trabajar en el campo audiológico

• Establecer o incorporar unidades nacionales de la Sociedad en todo el continente para asesorar, guiar y coordinar las actividades de la Sociedad

• Servir como centro de intercambio para recabar y diseminar información sobre los problemas auditivos y sobre las personas que los padecen

• Cooperar con Hearing International y con la Sociedad Internacional de Audiología para apoyar en lo posible la obtención de sus objetivos

• Solicitar y recibir fondos para lograr sus propósitos

Full membership is open to anyone residing in the Americas. Formal admission as a Full Member is required by virtue of an applicant having a university or accredited higher education institute degree, certificate or license in the field of Audiology or in related disciplines, as attested by a member of the Executive Committee and a member of the applicant's region or home country. Full members may vote, hold office, receive all the PASA publications and are entitled to all other benefits of membership.

Los miembros titulares deben residir en un país de América. Es indispensable para su admisión formal como Miembro Titular de la Sociedad, tener un grado, certificado o licencia de alguna universidad o institución reconocida de educación superior, en el campo de la Audiología o en disciplinas conexas, y que esto esté reconocido por un miembro del Comité Ejecutivo y por un miembro de la región o del país del solicitante. Los miembros titulares pueden votar, ejercer cargos, recibir todas las publicaciones de PASA y tienen todos los demás beneficios que concede la membresía.

Associate members may not vote or hold office but shall receive all the PASA publications and are entitled, according to By Laws, to all other benefits of membership.

La categoría de Miembro Asociado está abierta para cualquier residente en América sin título universitario, que esté interesado en los objetivos de PASA y que compruebe lo anterior con el aval de un miembro titular de la Sociedad. Los miembros asociados no pueden votar ni ejercer cargos, pero recibirán todas las publicaciones de PASA y tienen todos los demás beneficios que concede la membresía, de acuerdo a los Estatutos.

La categoría de Miembro Correspondiente está abierta para cualquier persona que resida en algún país que no resida en el Continente Americano, con o sin título universitario, que esté interesada en los objetivos de PASA y que compruebe lo anterior con el aval de un miembro titular de la Sociedad. Los miembros correspondientes no pueden votar ni ejercer cargos, pero recibirán todas las publicaciones de PASA y tienen todos los demás beneficios que concede la membresía, de acuerdo con los Estatutos.
